The five fields of a POSIX cron expression

Read minute, hour, day of month, month and day of week with exact numeric bounds.

August 11, 20266 min read

A five-field expression has no seconds or year field. CronParse rejects a sixth token instead of silently changing dialect.

Each field has its own bounds

Minutes are 0–59, hours 0–23, day of month 1–31, month 1–12 and day of week 0–7 with 0 and 7 both Sunday.

Comma-separated items are expanded into a sorted set; descending ranges are rejected.
